A LOCAL CANDIDATE YOU CAN TRUST!

Why the local community trusts mark beer

“We need someone we can trust to do the right thing for local businesses”

"As the founder of Oxford's only distillery, which also became Oxford's #1 tourist attraction, I understand how crucial it is to keep Oxford moving.

As the lead on a project to create affordable and social housing in Oxford and the county, I am also acutely aware of the challenges we face.
I believe it's time to bring greater focus to the work of the County Council. We need someone with common sense, a track record of success in managing large organizations and budgets, and someone we can trust to do the right thing for farming, local businesses and for the people of Oxfordshire.
On May 1st, my vote goes to the independent candidate, Mark Beer for Oxfordshire."

Tom Nicolson, Founder, Businessman, and Social entrepreneur.

“Mark will bring competence and integrity, putting the genuine interests of residents first"

“Oxfordshire County Council has failed to serve the City of Oxford in all its duties. It has failed local schools and our children (especially SEND children), failed vulnerable adults in social care and failed us all in its role as transport authority.

Decisions are made by the few in the interests of a tiny minatory without transparency or accountability and money wasted on pet schemes without evidence or public consultation.

Its policies have isolated communities, bankrupted businesses, put off visitors, shoppers and potential investors and left residents distrustful of our Councillors and disengaged from local democracy. Nothing will change unless the Lib Dem/Green coalition is removed from power and incompetent councillors replaced with decent local people who will serve in the public interest.

I am delighted to be supporting Mark Beer OBE as independent candidate for Walton Manor & Summertown.

If elected, his experience and professionalism will bring rigor and competence that is much needed on the Council and he will ensure that the highest standards of conduct and integrity are observed. Mark will put the genuine interests of Oxford and its residents back at the top of the council’s agenda.”

Matthew Broadway, Local Resident and Businessman

"Let's refocus the Council on the needs of the community. Mark Beer is my choice to put things right."

"Oxfordshire County Council needs to change. For too long it has been gas lighting residents who call for common sense green policies.

It thinks LTNs and Bus Gates are a panacea for the environment. But what has it actually done for our farmers and for those of us that invest in Oxfordshire's green economy?

Let's stop the waste, refocus the Council on the needs of the community and avoid harmful party politics that clog up our towns and cities.

Mark Beer is my choice to put things right."

Alex Cole, Champion Racehorse Trainer

“Given his proven track record, Mark Beer is best placed to challenge and call out the inept approach to Oxford City planning”

"For over 30 years, I've been running successful neighbourhood restaurants in Summertown & Jericho; I’ve also been a resident in the area for 40+ years.

Walking around our city, I am constantly reminded of Oxfordshire County Council’s incompetence, waste and misplaced ideology.

Our city needs to be connected rather than divided, and, to maintain vibrant communities, our neighbourhoods and local businesses must be encouraged to thrive.

In my opinion, Mark Beer, given his proven track record, is best placed to challenge and call out the inept approach to Oxford City planning."

Jon Ellse, Restauranteur

“Mark’s fresh, practical, common-sense approach gives me huge confidence for the future”

"I have lived in and around Oxford since 1975, building many businesses, including Browns, the Old Parsonage & Old Bank Hotels, Quod & Gees. The Oxford Collection currently employs 220 people and pays £500,000 pa in business rates. I am non-political and only interested in Oxford’s economic and cultural well-being.

When I first arrived, our city had real vibrancy, buzzing with many independent shops and theatres, serving both the city and its wider population of 700,000. Over the last four years, I have witnessed the Liberal Democrat County Council Transport Policy, under the direction of Councillor Gant, take the city in the wrong direction. Their LTNs & ZEZ and the threat of 6 traffic filters, have actually made the city congested. Their poor decisions are allowing the closure of the Botley Road to last more than 3 years, causing untold misery and economic damage. Their ideological anti-car policies are damaging the economy and the lives of residents and visitors. Millions of pounds have been wasted on unnecessary road projects and could have been better spent on the genuine needs of Oxford and Oxfordshire.

The city of Oxford has declined under the stewardship of the current County Council. Everyone can see for themselves the numerous empty shops and neglected streets throughout the city centre. A mood of pessimism is in the air.

So, there is an urgent need for change. I think the future of our wonderful city should now be in the hands of those who actually live and work in the city, those who really care about the people around them. I have been very impressed with Mark Beer and many of the other ‘Independent’ candidates. Their new, fresh, practical common-sense approach gives me huge confidence for the future."

Jeremy Mogford, Hotelier and Restauranteur

“Mark is ready to represent the people of Summertown and Walton Manor”

"Mark’s experience equips him well to deal with complex problems and really understand the issues.

He has done a lot of listening, and is ready to represent the people of Summertown and Walton Manor, truly acting on your behalf.

I know he has the courage to speak against proposals that would damage the area, and the tenacity to argue a case for positive changes.

I am delighted he is one of our candidates, and I know your vote will make a difference if you vote for Mark Beer."

Dr Anne Gwinnett - Independent Oxford Alliance Party Chair & Leader

“I support Mark Beer as the voice of common sense: Shining sunlight on the Council's opacity.”

"I've seen a lot in my career, and Oxfordshire needs a change.

The roads are getting worse, the State schools are failing our children and the Council's waste is chronic. Party politics are getting in the way of common sense, and the Council's evangelism is damaging us. This must not continue!

I support Mark Beer as the voice of common sense: Shining sunlight on the Council's opacity."

John Bearn, Retired Police Officer

“For me as a Consultant surgeon and longstanding Summertown resident, the choice is clear: Mark Beer.”

"As a Consultant surgeon, and longstanding Summertown resident, I know how vital it is for people to be able to access hospitals, healthcare and help. How vital it is for ambulances to flow freely and fast around our community. And for those tasked with saving people's lives to be able to get to work quickly.

So, when I read of the Council's plans to put restrictions on the arteries that feed our hospitals, I know that something has to be done.

I'm not political, but I have taken an oath to help people and so when I see lives at risk it's time to call it out.

Please vote on May 1st and choose wisely. Party politics should play no part in saving lives. For me, the choice is clear. An independent voice of common sense. Someone able to call out misplaced ideology and financial waste, and to ensure that the health of Oxfordshire improves. Mark Beer for Oxfordshire"

Mr Giles Bond-Smith, Consultant Surgeon in Summertown, Oxford
