Oxfordshire County Council will spend over £1.2 billion this year—one of the highest budgets in the country—but what do residents have to show for it?
Potholes, cuts to key services, and an “anti-car” agenda that’s steamrolling ahead without public support.
In Bicester, the council rolled out a 20mph zone despite 69% of residents objecting. That’s not consultation—it’s contempt.
From LTNs to traffic filters, Oxfordshire is being used as a testing ground for policies that ignore common sense and crush local communities. Businesses are closing, residents are isolated, and daily life is getting harder.
I’m Mark Beer, and I’m running as an Independent candidate for Summertown and Walton Manor - because we need a voice that represents people, not party lines.
My career in business has taught me how to lead, cut waste, and deliver real results. Now I’m ready to use that experience to serve the community that’s always been home.
Here’s my plan to bring accountability, transparency, and action back to Oxfordshire:
✅ 1. Cut Waste, Cut Tax
Council Tax keeps rising while money is poured into pet projects and bloated departments. I’ll use my business background to scrutinise every pound spent, cut unnecessary costs, and bring real value back to residents.
Let’s stop wasting money—and start giving it back to you.
✅ 2. No More Ideology, Just Ideas
As an Independent, I have no party whip to follow—just residents to serve. While the major parties bicker and push national agendas, I’ll stay focused on what works here, now, for us.
I’ll bring common-sense, locally-driven policies—not more top-down ideology from party HQs.
✅ 3. Monthly Councils, Real Conversations
Enough of being ignored. I’ll launch monthly advisory councils - both in-person and online - so residents help shape decisions before they’re made.
But I’ll go further. For major council decisions, I’ll alert you in advance and ask for your views—and I’ll vote based on what you tell me. This is your council. You should have a say.
You speak, I listen, we act. That’s real democracy.
✅ 4. Say No to More LTNs
LTNs and traffic filters are destroying local communities. They hurt small businesses, isolate the elderly and disabled, and make daily errands a nightmare—all while costing the council a fortune.
I will oppose any expansion into Summertown and Walton Manor, and be a strong voice for those already suffering under these misguided schemes.
Enough is enough.
✅ 5. Fix What’s Broken
It’s time to get back to basics: schools, police, healthcare, infrastructure. I’ll redirect funds from vanity projects to services that actually affect your daily life.
Let’s fix the roads properly—prioritising potholes based on traffic, location, and safety—not political optics.
✅ 6. Promises Made, Promises Tracked
Too many councillors make big promises, win your vote—and vanish. I’ll bring in annual performance reviews, just like in the private sector, and publish the results so you know who’s doing their job.
And I’ll go further: I’ll launch a public pledge tracker, keeping a real-time record of every councillor’s promises - including my own - so you can hold us all to account.
If we don’t deliver, you’ll know.
I’m not here to climb a political ladder. I’m here to give back to the community that has given my family so much, and fight for the Oxfordshire we all deserve.
So on May 1st, if you’re tired of being ignored, overtaxed, and let down - vote for change that works.
If you agree, there is only one box to tick on May 1st.
Vote Mark Beer, Independent for Summertown & Walton Manor.
